Hi friends! I am officially on the VLCD (very low-calorie diet)! I started my shakes, and so far, I am pretty impressed. They don’t taste bad, but they do taste like a diet shake! I would compare it to diet chocolate milk or skim chocolate milk. Definitely not as good as the sugary fattening stuff, but it’s not bad! I feel like I may get a little burnt out having it 4 times a day, but I am feeling positive! Check out my video review below! 🙂

At my appointment, Dr. Egan and I spoke a bit more about what the plan would be for my meal replacement shakes and what food is allowed. I chose the plan where I can still have 1 meal per day which will be 4-5 ounces of protein and veggies. I am thinking I will probably be making a lot of grilled or baked chicken and some veggies. Maybe some stir fry type dishes! I will have 4 shakes a day starting at 7 am and will have another one every few hours.
No hard decisions necessary
So far, I love the shakes because it takes the decision-making away and they are so easy to mix. It’s nice to not have to do a ton of food prep and question every little food decision. Dr. Egan said that’s a huge benefit of the VLCD diet plan. Picking what to eat has always been a struggle even when I was not trying to eat super healthy. It’s still early, but I feel like I’m going to go through a sugar withdrawal over the next few days. I always dread the first few days of starting a new diet because of the intense cravings and I feel bad while my body is detoxing. (I get super grumpy and easily agitated so it is probably a good time for my husband to leave me alone for a few days!)
I am a bit nervous about how I will socialize with my friends during this time because we usually would do dinner and drinks, so I feel like we will need to find something else to do. I think the trick will probably be to not go anywhere with temptations.
Overall, I am feeling excited, nervous, and a bit grumpy to be honest! I look forward to updating you next week!
